Tree Stump Grinding

What is Stump Grinding?

Tree Stump Grinding is usually the last stage in the tree removal or tree felling process to get rid of the last remnants of the stump. Once tree felling has been successfully completed, there will be a tree stump left behind, which, depending on the placement can cause problems with having an uneven surface.

Tree Stump Grinding aims to remove the upper section of the tree root ball above and below ground. Specialists are careful to ensure that the removal process will still allow for grass regrowth and healthy soil. The residue from the stump grinding process is left behind to naturally break down and add nutrients back to the soil.

Things to Consider about Stump Grinding Services

Stump grinding can be completed year-round, but usually needs specialised equipment, and to be carried out by experienced Tree Surgeons. In some cases, it is possible to remove by hand if the stump is very small, but it is strongly recommended to seek an expert’s opinion before attempting.

Tree surgeons need to consider the surrounding area, access requirements and potential disruption before starting a new removal job.

The stump must be removed in its entirety as if the stump and roots are still alive, root diseases and fungi can occur known as suckering.
